We are living in a material world.

This is really glowy plastic tubing. A large glowstick, if you will. It is solid plastic that you can cut with scissors, that if exposed to light for 5 – 30 minutes will glow for up to 8 hours. Who wouldn’t want some?!

Technically its called ‘Powerless Illuminated Tubing’ (I was definitely hoping for a glowstick-based pun, but the name is sadly quite boring) and consists of a vulcanized polymer solid core with inorganic pigments, with a thin layer of optically clear PVC as a coating. It is sold by an internet company called ‘Inventables’ Its quite cheap and apparently very easy to produce.

I think that it could be used for emergency lighting, edging paths and having a LOT of fun.

I’ve just found your blog. What fun you could have with this stuff in children’s bedrooms! They would never be afraid of the dark again!
